
PLESSIS - Bernice E. Cromwell Morrow, 96, Plessis, died Wednesday evening
at the Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown, where she had been a resident since
May 15, 2006.
She and her husband, Ernest, operated dairy farms in Theresa and
LaFargeville until purchasing their most recent farm in the Alexandria
Bay-Plessis area in the early 1950s. Mrs. Morrow also worked at various
restaurants and motels in Clayton and Alexandria Bay in the 1950s and '60s.
Born July 6, 1910, in Brockville, Ontario, daughter of James and Lillian McNish
Cromwell, she was educated in Theresa-area schools.
She married Ernest Morrow on Oct. 31, 1927, at the home of the bride's
parents. In 1970, she and her husband sold their farm to their son, Richard, and
moved to Plessis in 1971. Mr. Morrow died Sept. 10, 1977. Mrs. Morrow
continued to live in Plessis until 1991 when she moved to Briarwood Apartments
in Alexandria Bay. In the late 1990s she moved to Brownville to live with her
daughter, Bertha Hodge. Following a hospitalization in March 2006 she became
a resident of Samaritan Keep home.
She enjoyed traveling, dancing, social activities and gardening, especially
flower gardens.
Mrs. Morrow was a past member of the Plessis Grange, member of many senior
citizens groups, and a past member of the Plessis United Methodist Church,
transferring her membership to the Alexandria Bay United Methodist Church
when the Plessis church was closed.
Survivors include three daughters and a son -in-law, Evelyn Hughes, Bertha
hodge, and Patricia and john Phelps all of Watertown; seven sons and five
daughters -in-law, Donald, Watertown, Douglas and Jean, Camp Verde, Ariz.,
William and Esther, Chaumont, Toby and Donna, Dexter, Gary and his
companion Linda Carroll, Theresa, Richard and Sheila, LaFargeville, and
Gerald and Carol, Lowville; a son -in -law, James Bacon, Theresa; a daughter -
in - law, Evelyn Cook, Evans Mills, 52 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, 15
great -great -grandchildren and four great -great -great -grandchildren.
A daughter, Shirley Bacon, a son, Robert, three brothers, James, Stanley and
Harold Cromwell and two sisters, Geraldine Prior and June Kirkby, died before
her.
The Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home,
Theresa, with the Rev. Dora Schneider, pastor of First United Methodist Church
of Watertown, officiating.
Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
