Marceille Benowitz, age 81, of Rural Elmer, MO, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at Northeast
Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.
Marceille was born on March 11, 1928 in Macon County, MO, a daughter of Henry C. and Cassie Clara
(Rogers) Carter. On May 27, 1950, in Washington, D.C., she was united in marriage to
Stanley Robert
Benowitz
, who preceded her in death on June 3, 2009. She also was preceded in death by her parents, 2
brothers: John H. Carter and Lester Carter and 1 sister: Marjorie Overholt.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Steven R. & Kelley Benowitz of Elmer, MO; a daughter, JoAnn B. of
Jefferson County, New York; 5 grandsons: Sam, Cody, & Hunter Benowitz and Michael Hollingsworth & wife,
Ashley of Moody AFB, Georgia and Benjamin Hollingsworth of Pulaski, New York; several nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
Marceille was a graduate of the Elmer High School and also a graduate of Gallaudet University in
Washington, D.C., in 1950 with a degree in education. She was a high school teacher at the Rochester
School for the Deaf in Rochester, New York, for several years and had resided most of her life in Henderson
Harbor, New York. She enjoyed her flower gardens and doing her needle work. Marceille had resided with
her son in Rural Elmer, MO, since June 2009.
Private committal of her cremains will be in the family plot at the Ethel Cemetery in Ethel, MO. Arrangements
are by the Elliott Funeral Home in Atlanta, MO.
